Mike,

The Japanese installed one of the very earliest FTTH systems in Tsukuba City (Science City) in the mid '80's. Cost per residence connected? US$500,000. The project was quietly abandoned in the mid '90's. Customers were satisfied with the experience, but the service provider could no longer justify costs, surprising, because most of them were sunk.

Best, Ray
