Actually, Keith, I think the greedy thing is a smarter thing to do sometimes than the simple but dumb thing. While buying and selling simultaneously is the correct thing, one does have to be careful of the levels at which one does CCs, the prognosis for the market in general, etc. After working through some examples, I think it is best to sit out CCs unless one believes the stock is in an uptrend. And if one has CCs and the market goes down, it may be better to wait for it to recover rather than buying all the way down. I'm still trying to figure this stuff out. Wish it was simpler, but if it was, everyone would be retired by now.
