re: tax cuts that only benefit the wealthy
That was my point. You have been listening to Gore & his rhetoric. That's why you believe that tax cuts "only benefit the wealthy". I doubt that even Gore believes that nonsense.
Whether the cuts are across-the-board income tax cuts or capital gains cuts, they benefit every tax payer both directly and indirectly.
Even Bill Clinton realized that capital gains relief would encourage investment and benefit all homeowners and investors. Even the "school teachers and waitresses" that Gore opined about and fretted over in his maudlin acceptance speech invest in funds, equities, bonds, real estate, and commodities.
If a family of 4 making 35k/year saves $450-500 in taxes (Bush's tax cut proposal) that's money they have EARNED staying in their pockets. Guess what??? instead of relying on Al Gore to spend that money wisely, the actual wage-earner gets to have that choice. People who make 35k/year are not wealthy people, yet they do benefit. With that extra $450-500 of their own do you really think they'll begrudge the guy paying $175,000+ per year in taxes a savings of $20,000??? I don't think so.
Al Gore's "class-warfare" is pure populist rhetoric that stirs up division and fighting among people with its simple-minded propaganda that goes back to the depression & FDR-progressives/socialists. It has no place in 21st century politics.
The phrase "trickle down" is a cynical leftist-progressive complaint about a basic mistrust of humanity. That thinking leads to a reliance on the fed to command and control the US economy: a BIG mistake. There is no "trickle-down" in our current expanding economy. In fact, current "zeit-geist" leans much more heavily to the precise opposite of "trickle-down". It looks more and more like the average US citizen would like to concentrate on "moving up" and "getting rich" themselves. How is Gore's populist rhetoric going to work on them??
BTW: Al Gore's family personally owns $500,000+ worth of Occidental Petroleum stock. Al Gore is screaming about "big oil raising gasoline prices" and "gouging" the poor unsuspecting consumer and of course associating "oil" with the Texas economy, Bush's family and Dick Cheney of Halliburton. Where is this "friend of the working man" when the working man desparately needs him???
This is the Occidental Petroleum that is drilling in his beloved Brazilian rainforest and destroying the environment. Despite this, for some strange reason, this "enviromental activist" hasn't divested any of his "big oil" holdings.
Now let me pose a very simple question. If that isn't hypocrisy, then what is??? How can anyone trust ANYthing coming out of Al Gore's mouth??? |
