You mean a wind rower?
Perhaps, we called it a rake, but yes it was for rows. There was a company that came by every six weeks or whenever called and mowed the alfalfa and left it in a row. Then we would turn the row over (rake it) until it dried, which was usually once, but if it rained you had to do it again. Then the neighbor came by and baled it and we generally picked it up right after school, or right behind the baler if he was working at that time. Had to get it quick because we would irrigate the field as soon after it was cut as possible.

Until I got a lawn service, I would let my grass get a little longer than many, and it would form rows when mowed. I would rake it to dry and use the dried grass to mulch around the trees.
