Geez i'm sorry you were offended but rereading my post it did not seem thoughtless and insulting. If you were offended by "ignorant" i aplogise. I was not trying to be insulting - just replace ignorant by "knowledgeable" and u get my point.

I do understand your point that market segment are elastic but within limits.

If AMD overbuilds at high end they will devalue the high end and perhaps lower prices dramatically to sell 2x the CPU's.

If we assume that all Tbirds from AMD run 800Mhz and 900Mhz from Austin , and 1Ghz and 1.1Ghz from Dresden then AMDs sweetspot becomes 1Ghz.

Intels sweetpot is more like 800Mhz right now.

There is NO doubt that AMD will sell everyone they can make even if Tbirds have to sell for $120 ASP on average.

The facts are that AMD has a CLEAR speed advantage and this is the key to enable it to gain marketshare.

If AMD's sweetspot was a couple of speedgrades behind Intel then they would repeat last year where they had 2M pcs in inventory and prices in $50 range.

Intel MUST have an average ASP in $200 range.

AMD can be HAPPY with average ASP in $100 range.

With a tremendous advantage in Mhz AMD seems positioned very well.

And with the forthcoming PIV debacle AMD has a strategic COST and PERFORMANCE advantage.
