RSA Security Granted Unrestricted Export for RSA Keon(R) Products
Roadblock Removed to Selling RSA Keon Software to Foreign Governments
BEDFORD, Mass., Aug. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- RSA Security Inc. (Nasdaq: RSAS - news) today announced it has received approval from the U.S. government for the unrestricted export and sale of RSA Keon® products to foreign government agencies. Combined with the approval the company received earlier this year for the unrestricted export and sale of RSA Keon products to foreign commercial entities, RSA Security can now compete on an equal footing around the world and sell its RSA Keon digital certificate solutions much more aggressively internationally. Before RSA Security received this approval, sales of RSA Keon products to foreign governments required the company to obtain an export license for each transaction.

``We are extremely pleased to be able to compete on a level playing field with our RSA Keon products internationally,'' said Scott Schnell, senior vice president of marketing for RSA Security. ``By eliminating the several month delay we experienced prior to completing sales to foreign governments, we expect to be much more competitive and better able to stake our claim to a greater share of this lucrative market.''

In January of this year, the U.S. government completely eliminated the need for U.S. companies to obtain a license to export products containing strong encryption to virtually any commercial entity abroad, including telecommunications operators, ISPs, e-tailers, airlines, banks and hospitals, among others, but kept the restrictions on sales of these products to foreign government agencies. The new policy also allows applications developed outside the U.S. using strong encryption components such as RSA BSAFE® to be re-exported to most other countries without the prior review that was necessary under the former regulations.
