Access, Metro, and Core (plus whatever is defined as Edge)

Gregory- In a loose sense, HLIT is mainly a metro player. CMTN and AWRE are in the access space. It's bluring somewhat and getting confusing. Some define the network upstream of access as, "edge." Others call it, "core." Now I'm hearing the phrase, "metro-core." Maybe, "metro-edge," will pop up next? Whatever. I'm just saying the space smack in between access and backbone will be most interesting in the next few years.

As you say, and I believe, the core is getting stable. Access is taking off dramatically. So where does that leave the most problems? IMVHO-- Metro(ie, inbetween). Now if you are looking for access ideas, this thread is chock full of them. And my feeling is, we LMT regulars will be having edge/metro discussions more and more.

I haven't done enough DD to comfortably post ideas positioned in the metro/edge area yet. But if you want a couple of very SPECULATIVE, clearly metro positioned ideas, try looking at MRVC, and FIBR. The historic valuations may shock you. But that's not what they are about. I did invest in them before they took off and I can tell you I'm not putting anymore into them except for trading purposes.

BTW if anyone wants to disagree with me about the core, please do so. Honestly I don't know the details of what is happening in that space too well. I would have to think that at some point, spending in the core will have to level off. When?- I have no idea. I only pay attention to their top line growth. It's still looking strong, most likely due to broadband access finally taking off, and that's about all I know. -MikeM(From Florida)
