I think patterns may still have their place, but the time frame seems to have shrunk to sub-daily charts. At least that's what some of the gurus say, e.g. Raschke. And those short time-frame patterns are the basis of all of Toby Crabel's work. They don't seem to be as reliable on longer term charts. Of course, everytime I ignore them they slap me up side the head! :-)
