Emulex Demonstrates 2 Gb/s Fibre Channel Solutions At Intel Developer Forum As Part of Intel's ``FastTrack'' Program, Emulex Products Successfully Pass IA-64 Interoperability Tests for Win64, Linux 64 and Monterey Operating Systems and are Selected for Display
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 22, 2000-- Emulex Corp. (Nasdaq:EMLX - news), the world's largest supplier of fibre channel host adapters(1), Tuesday announced it is demonstrating the 2 Gb/s LightPulse LP9002 fibre channel host bus adapter at the Intel Developer's Forum (IDF).
In addition to the demonstration, located in booth No. 841, the company's LightPulse products are displayed on Intel's showcase wall, which is dedicated solely to members of Intel's IA-64 Fast Track program who have successfully passed interoperability tests.
Intel's Fast Track program is designed to enable a select group of companies to develop complimentary technology as Intel introduces new or enhanced products. Emulex products included in Intel's Fast Track program and featured on the showcase wall are the 1 Gb/s LP8000, LP9000 and the 2 Gb/s LP9002 host adapters and the LH5000 digital fibre hub.
``Emulex is a leading provider of fibre channel technology to our OEM customers, so they are a natural participant in the IA-64 FastTrack program and we are pleased to have them represent their products at IDF,'' commented Jason Waxman, Intel IA-64 marketing manager. ``Emulex products provide high performance and robust storage area network operation for IA-64 platforms.''
The LP9002 demonstration at IDF operates in conjunction with Seagate's new 2 Gb/s Cheetah disc drives, setting a new standard for fibre channel performance and increased bandwidth.
The recently-introduced LP9002 is fully backwards compatible with today's 1Gb/s fibre channel standard, yet capable of providing up to 400MB/s bandwidth on a single link when operating at 2Gb/s full-duplex, delivering the I/O performance needed in IA-64 enterprise-class systems. In addition, the LP9002 is fully compatible with software drivers for the market-leading LP8000 and LP7000E products.
``The Intel Developer Forum is an ideal arena for its new IA-64 architecture, which will provide our mutual customers with enterprise-class performance in open computing environments,'' asserted Mike Smith, vice president of Worldwide Marketing at Emulex.
``Our LightPulse family of host adapters displayed on the showcase wall provide the quality, features and performance needed for the powerful new IA-64 systems,'' he concluded.
In support of the IA-64 system development, Emulex is developing drivers for Win64, Linux 64 and Monterey operating systems. In addition, Emulex will provide new EFI drivers, utilities and diagnostic tools to support IA-64. All Emulex IA-64 software is fully backward compatible with the entire installed base of LightPulse host adapters.
