Sir,

I was dismayed to read on your editorial page today the piece by ROBERT A. JORDAN which perpetuates the libel that Republicans leaked the news about Robert Ray's grand jury in order to ruin Al Gore's acceptance speech.

The fact of the matter has been know by everyone, except you apparently, since Friday when federal judge Richard Cudahy (a Jimmy Carter appointee) admitted it was he who accidentally revealed the existence of the jury and APPOLOGIZED for it.

Now, an incredible four days latter, you run this opinion piece which is based on nothing but ignorance and partisan bad faith. Unless you applaud ignorance, unless you have decided to shed the transparent veil of non-partisanship you affect, you owe your readers an explanation of the facts and a prominent apology to George W. Bush, the Republican Party, and your readers.

I'll be waiting for it (but not holding my breath).
