* Monday was the first day of our two-day silicon valley bus trip, with
meetings at AMD and Maxim Integrated Products. AMD essentially
reiterated guidance and gave a detailed overview of its plans in both
microprocessors and flash memory, and said that they didn't seem much
impact from the easing in supply constraints in both areas. Maxim gave
a positive overview of its expanding product position in the analog
market, and was also upbeat regarding prospects for continued high
bookings in the current quarter.
* AMD overview: The company reiterated its guidance for the current
quarter, citing strong conditions in both flash memory and
microprocessors. The company essentially said that the easing in supply
of microprocessors and flash were both exaggerated, as it expects to see
both products in tight supply through year end. While we expect the
current quarter to be in line with strong expectations, we expect that
the stock will continue to reflect concerns over the flash memory market
in the shorter term.
