The same point could have been made just as well without lying.

One of the glories of human language is the ability to express complex things by the use of devices such as metaphor, simile, hyperbole, etc. etc. etc. If I say I've gained weight and am as big as a house, do you expect me to be 20 ft wide? If I am not, will you call me a liar?
