Another observation -

Isn't it weird that the article talks all about the technology and whether it's noticeable or not...but doesn't say much about whether or not (all) the hardware companies will incorporate the read/control features, or whether consumers would actually buy the devices?

At some point, does it reach a stage where the labels say "it's our way or you can't have the music"?

I have a strong feeling that the next generation of artists will have MUCH greater control over the revenues of their own music, no matter what the record companies try to do.
