Unless the "someone" you were talking to on the phone was an EBay systems administrator, your "crash" is purely anecdotal and could as easily have been a problem with a common ISP, etc.

Keeping Win2000 running for over a month may be possible, but I'm not going to accept the claims of a Microsoft employee as proof that such an experience is the norm. What I've heard is that it's incompatible with a lot of the hardware and software out there.

As I understand recent press reports, Dell is moving towards Linux for servers. I personally have seen Dell's Windows-based site crash (as I believe I reported here a few weeks ago).

I'm biased, but I believe you are, too. That doesn't necessarily eliminate the value of the debate. If it did, our political and legal systems wouldn't be much good.

JMHO.
