Cable & Wireless Signs Innovative New Five Year Support Contract

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Marconi (LONDON: MNI), a global supplier of advanced communications solutions, announced today that it has signed an innovative five-year support contract with leading global communications company Cable & Wireless. The new contract replaces existing annual agreements and will play a vital role in supporting the Cable & Wireless network.

The new arrangement incorporates a new style "price per element" costing system and part of the contract commits the two companies to working together to make the service provisioning as effective and economical as possible. The contract gives Cable & Wireless a dedicated account manager the right to escalate any issues to emergency status, and a new Service Level Agreement, which lays down key performance criteria.
Marconi will coordinate Cable & Wireless support from its Network Operations Center in Liverpool, which can call on a nationwide network of field engineers and strategically located spares. The new Service Level Agreement commits the Marconi services operation to dispatching an engineer within 30 minutes and to resolving 90% of all issues where there is a loss of service or functionality within four hours.
Cable & Wireless businesses around the world offer a range of services spanning broadband data, Internet, and voice services. Cable & Wireless' priority for expansion is the fast-growing market of IP (Internet Protocol) and data services for business customers.
The new contract covers Marconi switching systems, cross connects, Marconi's MV36 and EM-OS network management system, and the Cable & Wireless SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) network transmission system. Valued at close to $18 million over five years, the contract delivers year-on-year cost savings to Cable & Wireless.
