Multiservice Switching Forum and International Softswitch Consortium Announce Megaco/H.248 InterOp Event; First Megaco InterOp Event Set for August 28-31 At U. of New Hampshire
  Business Editors/High-Tech Writers
SAN RAMON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 17, 2000--The Multiservice Switching Forum (MSF) and the International Softswitch Consortium (ISC) today announced that they will co-sponsor a Megaco/H.248 Interop event at the University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH on August 28-31, 2000. Supporting interoperability is a major objective of both MSF and ISC. This interop event, hosted by Marconi, is the first co-sponsored event for MSF and ISC to help assure that products and services that use Megaco achieve the goal of global interoperability
This Phase One Interop event is open to active participants who bring a Megaco gateway or a controller or a parser or a test box. A participant may be a software and/or hardware vendor or a carrier who develops test boxes for their lab environments. Since this is a Phase One Interop event, it is the protocol and its documentation that is under test, not specific implementation.
"The industry is embracing the move toward packet networks that can deliver voice, data and video services on a common infrastructure. The new network architecture will allow centralized call control to manage voice and multimedia services. The MSF is pleased to be able to work with the ISC toward the goal of enabling the separation of call control and media gateway functionality," noted Mr. Morgan Littlewood, President of the MSF. He continued, "With well-defined interoperability standards for interfaces and protocols, call control software developers and media gateway developers can cooperate and allow carriers to smoothly migrate their networks as technologies evolve. This improves both product time to market and the longer term cost structures."
"These types of interoperability events are what drive us forward as an industry. The International Softswitch Consortium is very pleased to work with the Multiservice Switching Forum in endorsing the protocols that will make the softswitch architecture a reality", says Ike Elliott, President of the ISC. "We encourage full participation from all member companies, and we will work hard to further the work that benefits our members and the industry."
About MSF: The Multiservice Switching Forum is an open membership organization committed to developing and promoting implementation agreements for multiservice switching systems. Formed in late 1998, the organization's activities include promoting global development of multiservice switching system technology, promoting worldwide compatibility and interoperability, and encouraging input to appropriate national and international standards bodies. More information can be found on the MSF web site at msforum.org
About the ISC: The International Softswitch Consortium was launched in May 1999 to support rapid advancement of application development for the evolving Internet protocol networks which support both voice and multimedia communications. Internet protocol networks are built on distributed call control servers generally called "call agents", "media gateway controllers", "softswitches", and "media gateways". The Consortium promotes worldwide compatibility and interoperability; identifying, selecting, augmenting as appropriate, the development and distribution of standard interfaces for call agents, media gateways, and applications. More information can be found on the International Softswitch Consortium's website at softswitch.org.
