Pittsburgh, PA - Marconi (LONDON: MNI), a global provider of advanced communications solutions, today announced that it has reached a key milestone in optical access - deploying more than three million lines of fiber-to-the-curb capacity and extending the power of optics to homes across North America.
Fiber-to-the-curb solutions enable service providers to bundle affordable next-generation services to homeowners, including high-speed Internet access, telephony services, cable and direct broadcast satellite (DBS) television, video-on-demand and home security. Service providers who have installed fiber-to-the curb solutions are positioned to easily upgrade their networks as bandwidth demand increases, and even deploy fiber-to-the-home.
"Marconi is pushing fiber out as far as possible, be it in the access loop, to the node, to the curb and even fiber-to the home," said Mike Pratt, executive vice president and general manager, Access Products, Marconi. "We will continue to combine technology innovation and business know-how to deliver an optical last-mile solution that significantly improves a service provider's business."
Marconi is building a deep fiber portfolio that substantially increases service providers' return on investment, via:
Easily Upgradeable Modular architectures: allowing service providers to deploy only what they need immediately, and to add as demand increases, deferring initial capital costs. Flexible network topologies offering solutions for telephony, high-speed data via Ethernet, xDSL, or cable modem, broadcast analog and digital video Lowest-powered solutions: enabling service providers to push fiber closer to the home reducing infrastructure costs. Single fiber solutions: Marconi Deep Fiber Solutions(SM) accommodate today's demands for voice, video and data access on a single fiber via the power of WDM Easily-managed passive optical infrastructures allowing fiber to be economically deployed to the home. Cost-effective upgrades from existing advanced copper infrastructure to new Deep Fiber Solutions allowing the architecture to evolve as bandwidth demand increases. "Marconi is taking the initiative to make these futuristic services affordable today," Pratt said.
