Ion Optics and Marconi Commerce Systems Featured Guests On PBS American Environmental Review

FRIDAY, AUGUST 18, 2000 11:15:00 AM EST
WALTHAM, Mass., Aug 18, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- American Environmental Review, a Public Television series providing information on recent environmental advances, has completed a feature story on Marconi Commerce Systems' next generation gasoline vapor recovery systems using Ion Optics infrared (IR) source technology.

Independently produced by WJMK in Florida, the American Environmental Review is a national television series with the objective of informing and educating viewers about the environmental issues, services and products that most affect them. Hosted by CBS News Correspondent Morley Safer, this 5 minute newsbreak segment was uplinked to: 345 public television stations in the U.S.; the American Independent Network; and World Net, the U.S. Government News and Information Service for worldwide access.

Marconi Commerce Systems, formerly Gilbarco Inc., is a worldwide provider of fuel dispensing equipment and point-of-sale systems for the retail petroleum industry. Marconi Commerce Systems' VaporVac(R) vapor recovery systems have been in use since being certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in 1993. Recent changes in on-board automobile vapor recovery systems requires that gas dispenser vapor recovery systems become more intelligent, determining whether the automobile has on-board vapor recovery. In designing a gas sensor for their next generation vapor recovery system, Marconi Commerce Systems found Ion Optics' technology to be the best choice.

Marconi Commerce Systems decided to use an infrared gas sensor because it does not come in direct contact with the gasoline vapor and is therefore more accurate and reliable. Ion Optics' pulsIR(R) Infrared Source was an ideal choice for the infrared gas sensor because it typically operates at temperatures below the ignition point combustible gases.

Ion Optics' pulsIR(R) products are ideal for use in many applications including air quality monitoring, emissions monitoring, toxic and combustible gas detection, respiration and anesthesia monitoring, as well as breath-alcohol testing. Our products have been used in gas and chemical analysis of CO, CO2, Methane, N2O, CFCs, Halogens, Hydrocarbons, PFCs, and many others. Ion Optics has an Evaluation Kit (for $245) that allows for fast evaluation of the pulsIR(R) products in your current NDIR gas monitor design while also reducing design time.
