Marconi Develops Solutions for New DLEC; Marconi and Copper Mountain Team for NewPath Rollout
TUESDAY, AUGUST 22, 2000 8:04:00 AM EST PITTSBURGH, Aug 22, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Marconi MNI, a global supplier of advanced communications solutions, today announced a relationship with NewPath Communications, a Chicago, IL-based, data local exchange carrier (DLEC), to provide an integrated ATM-DSL solution for a new DSL services network across 14 states in selected markets in the Midwest. NewPath will offer retail and wholesale DSL services to small and medium sized businesses, telecommuters and to home office workers.
Following a vendor competition, NewPath chose Marconi's superior business solution, which provides reliable, scalable networking technology, plus build- out and network management functions by Marconi's services organization. With Marconi and Copper Mountain providing the network, and Marconi providing automated tools for network provisioning, NewPath can concentrate on selling services to customers rather than worrying about network management issues.
"Marconi's solution is allowing NewPath to focus on what we do well -- providing outstanding customer service and growing our DSL business. In addition to enabling n¬ †bÖadband revenue streams, Marconi's management solutions also will help NewPath reduce expenses by cutting the costs of booking new subscribers," said Bob Wasserman, president of NewPath.
Solution Details
To build a new broadband network, NewPath turned to Marconi for an ATM backbone based on the TNX(TM)1100, a modular and scalable 2.5 Gbps to 10 Gbps network switch, and the TNX-210, which is ideally suited for multiservice provisioning at small central offices and service extensions to customer locations.
Marconi's TNX switches will provide connectivity for CopperEdge(R) DSL Concentrators from Copper Mountain Networks, Inc. CMTN, a leading provider of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) equipment solutions for businesses and residential users. In May, Copper Mountain and Marconi formed a strategic alliance to deliver and support end-to-end broadband communications solutions.
"With the business solution provided by Marconi and Copper Mountain, NewPath Communications can do what it does best: selling advanced communication services. The network management tools provided by Marconi will enable NewPath to grow quickly and efficiently, confident its network will scale to meet future needs," said Joe Pajer, executive vice president of Marconi's Routing & Switching Products division.
NewPath relied on Marconi for expertise in building networks that combine voice, video and data with the guaranteed capability to meet service level agreements (SLAs) and quality of service (QoS) and on Copper Mountain's industry leading DSL concentrators to provide the delivery platforms for voice and data services.
"Winning this contract from NewPath shows the strength of the Marconi and Copper Mountain partnership," said Rick Gilbert, president and CEO of Copper Mountain. "Together, we were able to propose a complete solution that gives NewPath the peace of mind that its network is in expert hands while NewPath executes its business plan to deliver new broadband services."
