The use of funds alocated to prevent & fight fires was quite near THEFT! It has cost homes & lives! It tha cost many inches of valuable top soil in areas of the mountains which regain soil at the rate of 1/4 inches in decades!

Clinton has no respect conceren or understanding for the truth of what is good for the environment or the people of the west!

Feds Agree - Finally - to Thin Forests
UPI
Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000
WASHINGTON - The Forest Service next month will release a sweeping plan to thin between 40 and 56 million acres of national forest to prevent forest fires like the ones sweeping the American West - but it will be identical to a plan congressional Republicans have sought for months - and sometimes years.
Republicans say the strategy, essentially in the final stages for months but apparently put on ice by the White House, is coming to fruition only under pressure from the General Accounting Office, lawmakers from the West, and building political pressure from the massive fires.

"They are going to be Johnny-Come-Lately," Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., said Tuesday. "They have refused to put it out, and they have resisted putting it out."
