Richard,

I highly doubt that anyone's home was lost, or whether uncounted acres were burned as a result of this diversion of monies from fire-fighting.

The real problem is that they fire-fighters do not have enough personnel, or immediately available equipment, something that this spending would not been able to alleviate in time.

What is truly the problem is where gov't has assumed control or ownership of forest land and failed to manage (read: thining the overgrowth as the article discussed) it properly. This is not usually the problem with forest that is harvested and then resown with new trees.

Regards,

Ron
