My thoughts on Dell doing manufacturing for IBM are that it is doubtful. I think IBM will move towards emulating the Dell manufacturing model and that IBM will be more careful in which markets they participate in. IBM will continue the PC R&D and will continue with selling IP and other sub-PC commodity to Dell and others. IBM will migrate to whatever niches exist that optimizes E to R so that the division can be profitable at a level of margins consistent with the Corporate model. But IBM will never own this space and can only exist by picking off the pieces that work.
