Intel released Cascades Xeon 700 MHz some months back. When Intel was about to release the 800 MHz version, customers like Compaq resisted, saying that they wanted to give the original 700 MHz version a little more time. Therefore, Intel decided not to release the 800 MHz version.

That's why Compaq said to reduce the pace of "large-cache processor introductions." The 800 MHz version would have come too soon after the 700 MHz version, and the difference in performance would have been too miniscule to justify a large-scale launch of the new speed grade.
