Socket's Card Provides Wireless Access to Internet via Sprint PCS Nationwide Network

NEWARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 23, 2000-- Socket Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCKT, PSE: SOK) today announced that Sprint PCS has incorporated Socket's Digital Phone Card into a universal wireless connectivity solution for Windows CE devices, Windows-powered Pocket PCs, Windows notebooks and Apple PowerBooks. The Digital Phone Card is part of the Sprint PCS Wireless Web Connection Card Kit announced today as part of the Sprint PCS Wireless Web for Business. The connection kit offers another option for avid wireless data users to access the Internet or their corporate networks via the Sprint PCS all-digital nationwide network in the mobile environment.

``Sprint PCS is a leader in providing nationwide wireless data services,'' said Kevin Mills, president and CEO of Socket. ``We are excited that Sprint PCS has selected the Digital Phone Card as an easy and convenient way for their subscribers to connect mobile computers to Sprint PCS Phones in order to experience the benefits of wireless connectivity.''

In addition to the Digital Phone Card, the Wireless Web Connection Card Kit comes with an adapter that fits into a standard PC Card Type II slot on a laptop or other handheld computing device, freeing up the serial port for fax and printer use.
