You're argument about software can be applied to any company that pursues a stadium deal. Do people want to go to Staples more because they house the Lakers? Psychologically who knows...
Will Staples build trust and stability amongst customers by doing this along, with doing good busines. Maybe...
Will the move help Staples become a household name?
I think it will certainly help.

How can you possibly compare Staples with CMGI? I mean, consumers go to Staples stores and buy things there. Ask a row of football fans if they've been to a Staples and chances are they have. Staples is a retail brand. CMGI has no retail presence, no retail strategy, no need to reach consumers. They have virtually ZERO impact on CMGI operations. Except for investing. Or except for visiting CMGI properties -- but naming the stadium after CMGI isn't going to increase traffic to Alta Vista...

How many Staples TV commercials do you see (Zillions during this back-to-school period)? WOuld you advocate CMGI advertising?

Put it this way: ask your mother if she knows Staples. If they're in your region, chances are pretty good she knows about them. Ask her about CMGI -- chances are fantastic she's never heard of them. And CMGI will never need to reach her -- or any average sports fan -- because they don't buy anything from CMGI...
