scenario you presented is so ludicrous... it is just incredibly ignorant.

And you still won't say what you expected him to say if he "was a good leader". And what scenario? You may not like the comparison, but that hardly makes it ignorant. That's rather insulting, don't you think?

Carter "looked" like he was blind-sided by another nuclear power. He knew what was at stake - a lot more that the U.S. faced by Reagan being shot. Sure he was was shocked. Your incredible talent for face-reading aside, the whole basis of detente was mutually assured destruction, but there was also the hot line with the verbal assurances of the Premiere. If there wasn't we'd be toast now. This was a mechanism which all Presidents relied upon when dealing with the Soviets, and this time it failed. Lucky for you, it wasn't nuclear. Are you always this dogmatic? Fine. Carter was Satan. Good grief. I didn't do that well under Carter in economic terms, yet I don't feel that emotionally involved. Your extreme view is what I reject. What does vilifying him do for you?
