Content will drive subscribers to one provider vs. another provider This of course is very far from a given. AOL is an extrememly unique example of a situation where content drives the choice of provider. It is a leftover from the bulletin board days before there was a world wide web and there were no consumer ISP's. Whether this antiquated business model will carry forward is unknown. The world outside AOL understands very easily that content and distribution are completely different beasts. I can think of no other situation in history where the content is closely connected to the method of delivering it in the minds of the public as it is with AOL. So far Excite has done nothing to prove they were not a 7 Billion wasted expense (more like $9 Billion if you include all the stuff Excite bought). I can't imagine anybody picking @home over Earthlink (for example) because of the Excite content. Can you? What I had hoped for from Excite was a blow-your-socks-off broadband environment that would draw people away from dialup. I've not seen the @home environment but it doesnt sound like they have accomplished that at all. Instead @home and the MSO's are forced to buy customers with cheap rates and free installs. Think how many free installs $9 Billion would have bought. Eric Re Ahhaha: We have learned over time it is useless to try to fight with his attitude. Just accept it for it's entertainment value and search for the truths hidden beneath the muck.
