Well, things are a little smoother over here. Mexico's newly elected president Vicente Fox has some interesting ideas. Did you know that fox in Spanish is zorro? They've elected Zorro!

"By building up walls, by putting up armies, by dedicating billions of dollars like every border state is doing to avoid migration, is not the way to go," he said. "The United States' economy cannot grow at rates of 5 percent or more if you don't have Mexicans there. It is a country that was built up by immigrants. I don't know why today immigrants should be rejected."

Fox has promised to push to boost the number of visas allowing Mexican workers to hold temporary U.S. jobs ranging from engineering to housekeeping. Such a move would reduce Mexican unemployment and fuel Mexico's economy by increasing the flow of money sent by expatriate workers to their families back home.

With American unemployment near historic lows and employers often desperate for workers, Fox hopes the U.S. business community, with whom he has close ties by virtue of his tenure with Coca-Cola, will support the measure.

It is Fox's long-term vision for the U.S.-Mexican relationship that has drawn the most attention. He has talked about an end to all North American border restrictions - a situation in which any Mexican, American or Canadian could move from Guadalajara to Pittsburgh to Yellowknife without a passport or work permit.
