Compliments of Rang1995 on yhoo - LC news! Lightchip Packs 48 Channels On A CardCustomers Can Add Optical Capabilities To Their Chassis

SALEM, N.H., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Now, companies who want to expand their DWDM capabilities can drop in 48 channels on a single card in their own system chassis -- thanks to Lightchip.

"Our 48 channel card enables customers to build cost effective powerful DWDM transport layer systems for any DWDM network. Customers can integrate it quickly and easily to get up to speed -- using their own chassis," said Bill Emkey, Lightchip VP Marketing. "This densely packed card provides an unheard of 48 C-Band channels that we can configure to fit a customer's specific chassis requirements. Our customers are seeking convenience of implementation when addressing DWDM solutions for their networks. The flexibility of our technology allows us to introduce and manufacture a product that meets their needs."

"For example, now companies looking to enter the metro market or add optical networking capabilities to multi-protocol aggregation systems, can rely on Lightchip's DWDM expertise to deliver a card solution," Emkey explained. "As with other Lightchip products this card also features ultra low insertion loss, minimizing or eliminating the need for optical amplifiers. The card's bi-directionality provides customers the ability for full single fiber bi-directionality eliminating the cost of a second fiber span or additional ports at either end." Lightchip's athermal design enhances network reliability by eliminating the need for external heating or cooling, according to Emkey.

The new product is an outgrowth of Lightchip's Versalight family of systems solutions for optical networking - especially in the very cost sensitive metropolitan market. The module demonstrates the versatility of the Versalight technology -- it can be implemented in a standalone system or integrated into a customer's existing metro or long haul system.

The new card interfaces directly to Lightchip's optical performance management system to improve overall network reliability, performance and management.

Headquartered in Salem, New Hampshire, Lightchip is dedicated to providing innovative DWDM solutions for optical networks. Lightchip's products significantly improve the cost and performance of fiber optic networks by integrating dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM), wavelength routing, and optical management.
