Tell me how AOL and ATHM are not complementary services.

AOL is both an ISP and content provider.

@Home is both an ISP and content provider (via Excite, even though we'd love to forget about it).

When someone signs up for @Home, they almost inevitably disconnect their narrowband connection (AOL or otherwise). Is that complimentary? Not if you're the narrowband guy.

I agree, as I said in my prior post, that some will keep their AOL content for $9.95. How is that complimentary to @Home since they are losing people from their Excite content?

AOL will compete to keep subs from migrating. @Home will compete to drive its subs towards Excite and away from AOL.

The simple fact that AOL and Excite can co-exist doesn't mean that they aren't competing. Can it be a win-win situation? I think so, but as one side wins more, the other will win less.

I agree that we are seeing a conversion process of narrowband to broadband. AOL's job is to slow that process (at least until they rev up RR) and @Home's is to expedite it.
