AMD Browses Embedded Market With Opera Software
Companies Plan to Exchange Development Tools to Create Innovative Web Browser Solutions for Embedded Designers
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 24, 2000--AMD today announced an agreement with Opera Software, creators of Opera Web browsers, to cooperatively develop leading browser solutions for the embedded market. The solutions are intended for design engineers creating Internet appliances, set top boxes, web pads, and similar products.

Under the agreement, the two companies are authorized to develop advanced Web browser solutions combining Opera's software with AMD's line of embedded 32-bit processors, including the AMD-K6(TM)E family, Elan(TM)SC400 and ElanSC520 processor families.

AMD's 32-bit processors offer exceptional x86 price-performance ratio for the embedded market. Devices such as Internet appliances and set top boxes designed with AMD's processors and Opera Software's light weight, fully featured standards based browser will be designed to provide consumers with superior devices at a very competitive price.

The agreement permits AMD and Opera to assist each other's respective development efforts, and to exchange hardware, software, technical support and documentation to further those efforts.

``The crescendo continues to build for fast, powerful, and user-friendly ways to access the Internet,'' said Paul Smith, manager with AMD's Embedded Processors Division. ``We believe that AMD's hardware, working in conjunction with Opera's software, can provide truly great offerings for information appliance developers.''

John, Your right.

I don't see Itanic (stuck at 733Mhz) competing against a 2Ghz Dual CPU Sledgehammer on a single die very well.
