Alcatel Supplies Turnkey Fixed Network Solutions for Taiwan's Eastern Broadband Telecom

BusinessWire, 08/24/2000 10:18

PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 24, 2000--Alcatel, world leader in integrated voice and data networking solutions, has been awarded by Taiwan's Eastern Broadband Telecom (EBT) a contract to build its telecom network system. EBT is one of the three new operators who were awarded fixed network licences in March 2000 when Taiwan deregulated its fixed telecom networks.

Under the turnkey contract, Alcatel will supply the switching, transmission, access and Intelligent Network systems to establish the service platform for EBT's broadband multi-media network.

The building of the network is scheduled for completion in 2000 to enable EBT to provide commercial and residential users with high quality and diversified broadband network services.

Andrew Young, Alcatel Taiwan Country Senior Officer said, "The turnkey contract with EBT is yet another proof of Alcatel's capability and commitment to work with operators to build the most advanced telecom networks. The quality and flexibility of Alcatel's network and systems solutions enables our customers to roll out value added services that can satisfy user demand in a short time."

L.T. Wang, Executive Vice Chairman of EBT said, "Today, users increasingly demand a fast and efficient telecom network. After a careful evaluation of the options, we concluded that Alcatel has the most comprehensive and forward looking solution to meet user expectations, and we are looking forward to developing this partnership as our business grows."
