I entirely agree.

But I don't perceive Euro telecoms as a passive crew, especially after sinking billions and billions into spectrum. They're not going to be happy sitting on one another's thumbs very long at all.

Seems logical and rational to me that they will not wait meekly in the wings. And hey, with governments' hands in the business - they got pull. They will effect change. And the standards bodies will comply.

This is how standards bodies lose power. They will still have their rubber stamp. But they will have far less control where their mark is affixed.
