Allen may start against Titans

Running back Curtis Enis is healthy, has bulked up and is ready to lead the Bears running attack. Yet, all of that may not be enough to earn him the starting job. Chicago is considering starting James Allen during Friday's preseason finale against the Titans. The Bears are also intending to start rookie FS Mike Brown.

Urlacher takes a step back

Many scouts said Brian Urlacher was the most talented player taken in this year's draft. However, the safety-turned-linebacker may be limited in displaying his talents for Chicago. Urlacher was replaced by second-year LB Rosevelt Colvin atop the depth chart on Tuesday and is not expected to start in the opener against Minnesota. "We're trying to force-feed the kid an elephant," defensive coordinator Greg Blache told the Chicago Tribune. "So you see him gag and what do you do?"

No longer unemployed

Once he got over the shock of being released by the Buccaneers, DT Brad Culpepper felt he couldn't leave the NFC Central and agreed to a two-year deal with the Bears Tuesday night. The Bears were willing to pay him close to the $850,000 base salary he was scheduled to make with the Bucs. The other attraction is that he reunites with his defensive line coach at Florida, Rex Norris.
