While waiting in line at Barnes and Noble yesterday, I picked up the new issue of the Economist; it had a :-( face on it and I think the title was something like- "What the Internet Can't Do"

The first sentence made me think of you immediately-- a very weak paraphrase is "In the 1860s the telegraph was hailed as the invention that would bring the world together, solve the world's problems, bring peace and love..." The following article seemed to go on to discuss how people were hailing the Internet in the same way.

Unfortunately B&N found my order and I had to quit there, but but you might be interested in looking for the new issue. GIven the :-( on the front, I don't think you wrote the story.

As I've said before, I think the Internet is only as good or evil as the people using it-- and I certainly don't think it can change the basic nature of man, anymore than the rest of his inventions and toys have.
