Dear Greg:

It is a great topic about which your pastor has asked you to speak. I am sure he asked you to speak on this topic because he knows you have a lot of knowledge about it. If it were me, I believe I would speak on the issue of reduction of personal debt. I believe that is the number one financial problem facing Christians (and non-Christians, I might add). As I am sure you know, there are many scriptures dealing with this topic. I believe I would concentrate most of my time speaking about unsecured debt, usually credit cards. I would counsel the people that if they are going to use them, then they should, without exception to pay them off at the end of the month. If they don't have that discipline, then they should, right now, pull them out and cut them to pieces (you may even consider having some scissors available for people's use). You can do a lot by way of demonstrating that the interest on credit card debt makes it take forever to pay off the debt if one pays the "minimum amount" each month. More Christians need to hear and heed this important message. God bless and I hope it goes well. I will be interested to hear what you do speak on and how it goes.

In Christ, Tom
