it think it may have to do with more industrial diversity today than in the 20's. agriculture was also much bigger back then. anyway, we have a strong similarity insofar as consumers do not profit from productivity gains...wages don't rise, and prices don't drop. consequently the consumption fueling the boom is all done on credit....just as in the 20's.
