Even if it occurred as you describe, (few if any scientists claim that the earth was completely melted by the collision) the Earth, molten or not, was spinning and the axis was changed by the collision, hence the poles shifted. Get it, Sherlock?

Try whacking a spinning ball with something and find out for yourself. Even you can perform such an experiment. If you hit the ball exactly on the equator and in exactly the direction of spin the axis will not change. Change either where you hit or the direction of the hit at all and... Oh gee the axis moved, the poles shifted.
