Pat... I have company tonight but I keep sneaking in here to read the posts. I glanced over the article in question and found it to be positive. It only appears to be negative because they are talking about changes from what we know as RDRAM. RDRAM and DRDRAM is too good for too many applications. By reworking RDRAM (without giving up royalties) to make it cheaper and fit into more applications only means more business for RAMBUS. This is going to be kind of a dumb analogy, but it is an analogy and you could probably substitute any product in place of ice cream... Anyway, You go into an Ice Cream Parlor and ask the clerk for a single dip vanilla. The clerk says, "we only sell triple deckers." You say to the clerk, "but I only want one single dip." The clerk replies, "fine, I'll sell you a single dip but you have to pay for three dips." You end up walking out of the Parlor a dissatisfied customer and the Parlor owner didn't make a sale. The following week you pass by the Parlor and you see lines of people, and learn that they are now selling single dip cones for the price of a single dip. You are now happy and the Parlor owner is happy because he found a way to sell more product and you got what you wanted. And guess what? The Ice Cream Manufacturer is happy to because the Parlor owner has increased his volume. And those that want the triple decker can still buy them.

Of course there is much, much more to this that is going to take some thinking from the marketing aspects. But overall I think it will turn out to be positive. Of course you will have the Bilow types that will try to shot it down. But what Rambus and Intel are doing is exactly what Bilow and his group were complaining about. And Rambus will be able to do it and still kick ass when it comes to SDRAM and DDR, from what I am reading. This is following an evolutionary path that leads to the revolutionary jump. This is what they were all crying for. And RAMBUS will do it and make money for the shareholders... BECAUSE THEY CAN!

When I have time I have a few more comments. This will not detract from the original goals of Rambus and Intel but will add to them. I am sure we are going to hear a lot more positive remarks about this.
