A thriving civilization in the Eastern Mediterranean
Without study, I am not sure what civilization you mean.

I am reminded of a trip to Paris I took. I arrived early to acclimatize to the time zone and so spent a day in their natural history museum in St. Germain?

There was a most facinating display of Neandertal culture. It was basic and solid and conservative, until near the end. Then there was an almost desparate explosion of copying the tools and techniques of the homo-sapiens. They ultimately lost their struggle, and their species.

Many civilizations have come and gone since then. Sometimes the knowledge and writing they possess is so valuable and important that it is kept close to few individuals. The chance of finding just those individuals in the achaeological record is slim, so it appears the knowledge is lost, and then reborn.
