charles - I was one of the legion of Win2K beta sites and early in the process there were almost no drivers for the new standards, so I got a lot of opportunity to try NT4 drivers for compatibility. Many older drivers work fine but have the old NT4 problems - for example, they might lock up I/O resources and not release according to the new standards, etc. and so would not pass certification. The change in the driver certification standards, along with the DLL work, were probably the 2 areas which added most to stability and reliability of the OS.
