The collapse was widespread, and happened all at once. Its interesting that the walls of Mycenae and Tyrins were thought to be "Cyclopean" because the people in the area thought them to be beyond the capacity of humans to build.

As for the Minoans, I think its pretty clear they were done in by earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

I've already said its hard to buy into Velikovsky's cosmology, but his Earth history has been backed up by recent discoveries.
