I started with this point: the fact that one cares is not the relevant distinction. The relevant distinction is between caring solely about what happens to oneself, and caring about what happens to others. If one cares only about oneself, one is selfish; if one cares only about others, one is altruistic. However, neither is quite right, since one should care about the dignity of the individual, whether that individual is oneself or another. I think that is the most principled position........
