It may well be that RDRAM is the lowest cost memory for Timna in that kind of configuration. Certainly, Sony found it to be the preferred memory for its low cost PS-II.

Timna has a built in RDRAM controller and Rdram can be soldered directly into the board eliminating the cost of connectors and sockets. Only a few components are required to make a very competent PC appliance.
