Re: Brokers... When my daughter was born six years ago, I set up a trust to pay for her college education. It's been funded with $20,000 every year. It's now worth $480,000.
I've got some Mutual Funds in there, but the biggest holdings are INTC, CSCO, MSFT, EMC, HD, GE, QCOM. There's about a dozen lesser holdings, including the ones I bought for her this year: JDSU, NTAP, BRCM, PMCS. ($5000 each).
My broker has been trying to get me to set up a Wrap account so a "Professional Money Manager" could manage the account. I doubt a PMM would have done as well as I have, and I told him so. The broker told me that I was subjecting the account to excessive risk! Geez! Those blood suckers will say anything to try to move your money to where it makes them the most! Since I hardly ever trade in the account it doesn't make him any money, and he can't take credit for it, since I pick the stocks!
Now here's a scary thought. How much is this account going to be worth by the time she's 18?
