I don't understand the bit about Livingston "sparing Republicans protracted infighting." Republicans are extremely liberal on the issue of extending the bounds of holy matrimony, i.e., fathering children out of wedlock and then not taking responsibility. This is exemplified by the silence surrounding Flynt's publication of the "Hall of Shame" for Chenoweth, Burton, Watts, Hyde, Barr, on and on and on and on. The applause was bogus. You know it; I know it; even j1allen knows it. It was a show of solidarity. Any Republican worth his salt would not have applauded the weenie Livingston. Any Republican worth his salt would have said to the weenie Livingston: "Don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out."
