OT: link to bluetooth specs

bluetooth.com

Note that this spec is currently for 700kbps wireless LAN access at distances of less than 10 ft, using 2.4 GHz ISM band (unlicensed), which by FCC regs requires spread spectrum access (spec is for frequency hopping).

This tech is for allowing a phone, handheld, laptop, or other portable device to communicate to another device w/o wires. Potential uses are: updating/downloading info between phone/pda and home PC or kiosk in store, etc.; wireless access of PC to internet in internet cafe; wireless transmission within the home between your DSL modem and wireless device; you name it.

But just for clarity, note that it is NOT a 'last mile' solution for broadband to the home or to your 'roaming' mobile device. It is just a wireless LAN transmission standard.

There will be an update to the IEEE802b modulation standard over time, which might increase the transmission speed.
