I disagree. Do you realize what a trivial recompile and clever marketing can do for these software companies? The release of a hardware upgrade is a major opportunity for these companies to sell more software and make more money.

You inadvertently articulated one of Intel's "hidden" strengths. It is part of a value chain that stretches out all the way to the software. Software companies, depend and root for Intel to innovate and create "marketing" opportunities like this, IMHO.
