Fervor hasn't faded for chip industry

Excerpts:

"We saw a first run and we're going to see another run," said Shekhar Pramanick, a senior analyst at Prudential Securities. "We believe the cycle is not ending and every data point we are picking up is that the stocks have been clearly oversold, and we're going to see another run in these stocks. We don't know whether that's happening this month or definitely it's going to happen in the next few months."

"What's extending the cycle now, is this huge increase in demand that was really not foreseen by anybody," Linley Gwennap, principal analyst at The Linley Group, which provides independent consulting on the microprocessor industry. "Without this increase in demand, probably we would be topping out right now, but because the demand is so strong, I see a lot of shortages in the market and I don't see those shortages being resolved for another 12 to 18 months."
