ELON--New Echelon Products Manage Homes, Utilities, Buildings and Factories Over the Internet Latest LNS(TM) and LonMaker(TM) Tools Provide Powerful, Scalable Solutions for Internet Command & Control
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 28, 2000-- Echelon Corporation (Nasdaq:ELON - news) today announced that the next generations of both its LNS(TM) 3 Network Operating System and its LonMaker(TM) Integration Tool will allow applications associated with home, utility, building, and factory automation to be hosted anywhere on the Internet, paving the way for a new world of application services and businesses. When used in conjunction with Echelon's i.LON(TM) 1000 Internet Server, the new LonMaker and LNS tools enable customers to create peer-to-peer networks with fault-tolerant applications using the Internet as a broadband connection for sending and receiving information. Scheduled for release on September 29, 2000, these tools offer unprecedented levels of scalability and performance to the thousands of companies that are currently designing, manufacturing, and deploying everyday devices based on Echelon's open, interoperable LonWorks® platform.
``LNS 3 has set new performance standard in a number of critical areas,'' said Damian Inglin, Echelon's product marketing manager for the LNS family of products. ``For example, the monitoring performance of LNS 3 is ten times faster than any product on the market today, allowing more devices to be monitored in a shorter period of time.'' This leads to important ramifications for both high speed applications, like manufacturing processes using industrial Ethernet systems, as well as wide-area services covering millions of devices such as state-wide meter reading, load shedding, appliance monitoring, and home control.
``We were impressed with the new features of LNS 3 that integrate LonWorks devices over IP networks using the i.LON 1000 Internet Server,'' said Yvonne Chong, director of product marketing for Circon, a leading edge manufacturer of facility automation and information systems. ``Not only that, but the improvements in monitoring speed are quite impressive.''
The LonMaker Integration Tool is built on both the LNS 3 network operating system and Microsoft Visio® 2000, and provide a simple, graphical means of defining and commissioning LonWorks networks. ``The LonMaker tool was already the most widely used means of constructing open networks of everyday devices,'' said Rich Blomseth, Echelon's product marketing manager for the LonMaker Tool. ``With the introduction of LonMaker 3, the installation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of networks will be faster, easier, and less costly. This is especially important in building automation applications where very large networks of lighting, security, life/safety, HVAC, elevator, and power systems must be integrated quickly and efficiently.''
According to Peter Rexelius, vice president of TAC AB, Northern Europe's leading building management systems and services company, ``LonMaker 3 allows us to capture market share with its advanced features tailored for network integrators. Echelon consulted with us on the design of the product to ensure that the LonMaker tool delivers the features required to make integrators more productive and to greatly reduce the cost of designing and installing open control networks. We have already started preparations for releasing LonMaker 3 to our integration channel.''
The LNS Application Developer's Kit for Windows and the LNS Redistribution Kit for Windows will each sell for $2,495. Current users of any of the LNS development tools on the Windows platform will be offered a promotional upgrade price of $495 or $995, depending upon the development tool currently licensed. These prices are valid from now until December 31, 2000. For more information about LNS development tools and the upgrade choices available, see www.echelon.com/lns.
